Systemic Practice Training
– New January 2024-
Opportunities to Undertake Accredited Systemic Practice Training
The WSCP have partnered with the nationally recognised Centre for Systemic Social Work Practice to offer two courses to professionals:
- Certificate in Systemic Social Work Practice with Children and Families (20 places)
- Certificate in Systemic Social Work Supervision and Management (10 places)
1. Certificate in Systemic Social Work Practice with Children and Families (accredited)
This course is specifically designed for social workers and other frontline practitioners who routinely work directly with children, young people and families in a statutory setting. The course provides a foundation in key systemic approaches, methods and techniques which practitioners are supported and encouraged to integrate into their practice.
The course requires attendance at 15 in-person training days over the course of one year (these will be held in Wirral and Warrington) beginning in April 2024 (dates below). Attendees will also be required to complete two written assignments and keep a practice log. They should also be able to evidence 25 hours of systemic practice activity with children and families. Attendees do not have to be social workers, or work in LA children’s services as long as they primarily work with children and families and are involved in statutory work.
The course builds on the content from the multi-agency training, but takes a much more in-depth look at how systemic concepts can support practice and direct work with children and young people, and is accredited by the Association of Family Therapy and Systemic Practice. Further information about the course content and requirements can be found here. (opens in a new tab)
2. Certificate in Systemic Social Work Supervision and Management
This course is specifically designed for those managing social workers or other practitioners within a statutory setting. The course covers key systemic approaches, methods, and techniques which participants are expected to integrate into their supervision and practice.
The course requires attendance at 15 in-person training days over the course of one year (these will be held in Wirral and Warrington) beginning in April 2024 (dates below). Attendees will also be required to undertake and keep an evidence log of supervisory practice and complete two assignments.
The course covers key systemic approaches, methods, and techniques which participants are expected to integrate into their supervision and practice. Further information about the course content and requirements can be found here. (opens in a new tab)
Funding
The courses will be fully funded by the WSCP. However, in return for places on the training members of the training cohort will be expected to act as partnership champions for systemic practice in Wirral, and be able to advise and support other professionals – through activity such as facilitating reflection sessions and contribute to delivering briefings and training.
Application
To apply for a place on either course please email [email protected] setting out in a few paragraphs why you want to complete the course and how you can champion the systemic practice approach.
As attendance on the course is a significant commitment you will need to have the support of your manager and organisation to attend –potentially up to a day a week. Please ensure this is in place before you apply. Applications need to be returned by the 15th Feb. Applicants who have already attended the WSCP training will be prioritised for places.
